Marla Wharton
Teacher

“Quote”

Marla was enjoying her comfortable-retired life when God started shaking things up. She recognized that while resting from years of teaching was necessary, she needed to continue serving the Lord. So she called up Cookson Hills to see how she could volunteer… Well after many conversations, visits, and prayer, Marla decided no way was she moving to Oklahoma. But her friends, church, and family members encouraged her to step outside of her comfort zone.

With a cheerful and faith-filled heart, Marla came to serve as our Reading Specialist at CHCS in June of 2021. The family that encouraged her to serve includes her three sons, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren who she loves dearly. When she’s not in her classroom, Marla enjoys reading, painting, baking, watching British shows, and tackling what she refers to as Mount Doom (the 920 hill). She loves the beauty of Cookson Hills and is looking forward to being intentional about spending more time in nature and hiking while she is here.
