Incredible Combined Concert with OBU

Wednesday, March 6th, the Oklahoma Baptist University Symphonic Winds Ensemble came to our campus and partnered with our band department to host a united concert! Our students worked with the OBU students in rehearsals and sectionals throughout the day. Their hard work culminated with an incredible concert for all in the Gym.

Thirty band members from OBU playing a concert in the gym with the Cookson HIlls Chargers Band.

It was great seeing our students really step up their game to perform at such a high level with these college students. It was enjoyable as well seeing Cookson Hills alumnus, Lexie Kelly, who attends OBU, here for the event. When Lexie was interviewing with the band department at OBU, Mr. Kelly made a connection with the director, Dr. Tim Kaiser, and told him all about Cookson Hills.

Songs performed during the concert were Colliding Visions by Brian Balmages, Fragile by Randall Standridge, Salvation is Created arranged by Bruce Houseknecht, Into the Storm by Robert W. Smith, and Hoopla! by Chris Teichler.

It was a fabulous show, and we loved showing the OBU band our campus and our students. We plan for our relationship with the OBU band to continue for this event each year.
